The Washboard Chaz Blues Trio kicks off the show at 12:30 p.m.; Thomas and her band, the Professionals, perform following a 2:15 p.m. tribute. Mothers and Audubon Nature Institute members are admitted free. The 72-year-old Thomas knows a thing or two about motherhood, as she became one at a very young age. Last weekend, she performed twice at the Fair Grounds during the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival presented by Shell. We spoke this week about the food that inspired her to make a special trip to Jazz Fest, her enduring friendship with Allen Toussaint, and why she won’t ever stop being a mom.
